Die Künstlerinnen Subin Lee, Inyub Choi und Boohri Park kommen nach ihrem gemeinsamen Kunststudium in Dresden zum ersten Mal im knstvrn von Bad Wonder wieder zusammen und setzen sich in der Ausstellung they had a touch of paradise mit dem Begriff Illusion auf verschiedenste Art und Weise auseinander. Subin Lee spielt hierbei in ihrer Videoinstallation mit den physikalischen Eigenschaften des Lichts und möchte durch die äußere Einwirkung mit reflektierenden Materialien die Phänomene von Subjekt und Objekt sowie Einfluss und Reaktion erkunden. Boohri Park befasst sich hingegen mit dem Ambivalenten einer Innen- und Außenwelt, Natur und Stadt, Nähe und Distanz sowie das Virtuelle und Physische. Ihre künstlerischen Werke stehen in einer engen Verbindung mit der architektonischen Umgebung und ihren Betrachter:innen, wodurch vorrangig ein gegenseitiger Austausch evoziert werden soll. Und zuletzt erforscht die Künstlerin Inyub Choi in ihrer Malerei und Objekten die inneren „Inseln“, die jeder in sich trägt und uns miteinander verbinden. Zusammen wollen die drei Künstlerinnen in der Ausstellung they had a touch of paradise im knstvrn einen illusorischen Ort erschaffen, der Raum für Kommunikation, Reflexion, Spekulation aber auch fürs Träumen ermöglichen soll.

The artists Subin Lee, Inyub Choi and Boohri Park come together again for the first time in the knstvrn of Bad Wonder after their joint art studies in Dresden, and in the exhibition they had a touch of paradise deal with the concept of illusion in a variety of ways. Here, Subin Lee plays with the physical properties of light in her video installation and wants to explore the phenomena of subject and object as well as influence and reaction through external exposure with reflective materials. Boohri Park, on the other hand, is concerned with the ambivalent of an inner and outer world, nature and the city, proximity and distance, and the virtual and the physical. Her artistic works are in close connection with the architectural environment and its viewer:s, primarily aiming to evoke a mutual exchange. And finally, the artist Inyub Choi explores in her paintings and objects the inner „islands“ that everyone carries within themselves and that connect us to each other. Together, the three artists want to create an illusory place in the exhibition they had a touch of paradise at knstvrn, which should allow space for communication, reflection, speculation, but also for dreaming.

they had a touch of paradise Die Menschen sind bekannt als Illusion schaffende und illusionsgierige Wesen. Gern und oft täuschen sie sich selbst oder die anderen. Aber was bringt uns das? Wieso jetzt die Illusion? Wie wichtig ist sie für uns, gerade auch in Zeiten wie dieser? Und welche Rolle spielt dabei die Kunst?

Eine eindeutige Definition von „Illusion“ gibt es nicht und oft wurde sie gerade in der (ästhetischen) Theorie als problematisch sowie negativ angesehen. Häufig wird sie mit einer Einbildung, Täuschung aber auch Hoffnung verbunden. Wir alle haben diese visionären Bilder und trotzdem sind wir nicht in der Lage, ihre wahren Bedeutungen zu erkennen. Was aber nicht heißt, dass sie keinen Sinn ergeben. Sie beruhen auf der täglichen Interaktion mit unseren Kulturen, Erfahrungen und persönlichen Vorlieben, die manchmal schwer zu erfassen sind. Sie spiegeln sich ständig in unserem Leben wider und das in einer Besonderheit, die wir vielleicht nie wahrnehmen können.

they had a touch of paradise People are known as illusion-creating and illusion-greedy beings. They like and often deceive themselves or the others. But what is the use of it? Why the illusion now? How important is it for us, especially in times like these? And what role does art play in this?

There is no clear definition of „illusion“ and often it has been considered problematic as well as negative, especially in (aesthetic) theory. It is often associated with a conceit, deception, but also hope. We all have these visionary images and yet we are not able to recognize their true meanings. But this does not mean that they do not make sense. They are based on our daily interaction with our cultures, experiences and personal preferences, which are sometimes difficult to grasp. They are constantly reflected in our lives in a particularity that we may never realize.
